A Letter to my 16 Year Old Self

I know you’re hurting and times are hard, but I encourage you to press into God. Though 188289_206987172645486_2025305_nyour thoughts dwell on that boy you like and hope to be excepted by your peers, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. There are so many distractions and so little time. So dive into the beauty of his poetic word and watch your heart melt from stone to flesh. Watch God give you a heart to love your enemies and give thanks for all things.

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. (Psalm 107:1) Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. (Psalm 34:8)

Sweetheart, I know you have big dreams and bigger hopes for your future, but who are they for? Are they to glorify your Father in heaven or to draw attention to yourself? We were created to give glory to God, to love and serve him as obedient servants. This is your purpose. Is you’re heart to be known greater than your heart for Jesus? Release your pride and evaluate yourself. (Phil 2:12)

Darling, why do you dress the way you do? Have you thought about it? Have you thought about how those short shorts may cause others to sin? You are an ambassador of Christ. You are a representative of Jesus. Do not blaspheme his name by walking as a false convert, but walk with a gentle quiet spirit that which has great worth in God’s sight. Be set apart! Be not just a hearer of his word, but a doer of it.

Have you thought about how your words hurt people? Do you see your sin? Do you have any concern with those lost? You sit with your peers daily yet you don’t minister the saving grace of Jesus. They are dying in their sin and know not the Lord your God. Proclaim the gospel dear one. It may be scary, but what is more terrifying sharing the gospel or seeing those you love suffer in hell? Be strong and courageous, do not be terrified. (Josh 1:9) Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. (Tim 4:12)

You play on YouTube looking at make up videos, but have you opened your bible? Have you superseded in prayer over the persecution of the saints over seas or are you praying for a cute boy to ask you to the dance?

Oh sweet girl, you have much to learn, but I can promise you this. God does have a great 420275_359563960721139_1897248537_nplan for you. It may not be as you expected, but oh it will be far greater than anything you imagined. You may be persecuted, cut off, lonely, rejected, but let not your hope grow faint. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair;  persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. (2 Corith 4:8-10)

The joy of the Lord is your strength. The Lord is our joy, he is our strength, because he superseded on our behalf. We are saved by grace, through faith, in Christ. Remember, we are more than conqurers through him who loved us. (Rom 8:37)
