Enduring Through the Storm

Through the beautifully manicured Instagram posts, a feeling of hopelessness begins to sweep over my heart. Just Married, expecting, engaged, new job, first home, the list goes on. I’m overjoyed for my friends successes and those newly wed, but if God has a plan. Why do I feel so discouraged?

lonely-girl-sitting-on-the-stairs-4023Yesterday, as tears ran down my face, I flipped through the worn pages of my journal. The Lord repeatedly said “I have a great plan for you.

As encouraging as that might sound to all of us, it may be hard to receive. But, we know…

If we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us;
if we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself. 2 Timothy 2:12

So what does this mean? God is completely God, meaning he can’t deny who he is. He is faithful to his word and to his nature. If we die with Christ than we live in Him. If he is faithful, he is trustworthy. If he his trustworthy than we know that his promises are true.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.8aee495af0acf7ec9546fc2bc2651f3e

So when we are alone, broken, or uncertain of the future, we must trust in God’s plan, rest in His word  and fill ourselves with His promise of hope.

Psalms 34:17 When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.

I don’t know what you are currently going through, but I know for certain God works all good things for those who love Him. (Romans 8:28) He is with you in the mist of the storm, the dry spells and our broken dreams.

I know at times of great anguish our hearts often retreat from God, but when we feel swallowed by our circumstances, we must endure knowing God has a greater plan.

We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Romans 5:3-5

Be encouraged dear one, it is through affliction that we grow in Christ, it’s the testing of our faith that produces steadfastness.  He has never once left you or forsaken you. Don’t lose hope, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
